GOODBYE TO JK & LUNA

At PGIC, we're lucky to meet lots of amazing people every month. Some students only stay for a few sessions, some stay for a year - either way, they help to create some amazing memories for all of us - and we'll never forget them.

Last session we said goodbye to two very special students, JK & Luna.
Having been with us since early 2008, many CPs and students have come to know and love these guys. JK & Luna have been a huge part of many various activities that we have held in the last year and their enthusiasm for learning and speaking with Australian people has helped them both become very capable speakers.

We thank you for all the memories you gave us and wish you much success in the future.

TALKING CONTEST

As we do each session, Talking Contest has returned yet again, giving you the chance to win big prizes just by speaking English in public! Yes, it's that easy.

We understand that it may be difficult to gain the confidence to speak English to native speakers that you may not know very well (shop assistants, phone operators etc.), so Talking Contest is designed to help you put those fears away, and feel good about the way you speak English.

Most Australian people are kind and understanding, and will help you when they can. Choose your targets well, and over time, we promise your English and your confidence will rise.

PRIZES FOR TALKING CONTEST

1st PLACE - $150

2nd PLACE - $100

3rd PLACE - $50

++++

$20 & $30 vouchers on offer

As you can see, there are great prizes on offer and plenty of reasons why you should start Talking Contest today!
Shota Matsuura has a unique and interesting way of talking with Australians. He has started singing and playing music. What a great idea. He tells us that he gets to talk to all kinds of different people.
Have fun!!

Howyagoinmayyyyte?

If you struggled to understand what that headline meant, then it's safe to assume you may be on 'struggle street' when it comes to 'gettin' ya head round the Aussie vernacular'.

Aussie slang is a topic that a lot of our CP's discuss with students, as it is a vital part of speaking to, and understanding native speakers while you are here in Australia.
PGIC comes to the rescue again with its all-new 'Aussie Slang Wall'.

Near the Activities Desk you'll find a line of 'Aussie Slang' posted up on the wall, with a few big sheets of paper - your task is to find out what the slang means. We're running an honesty policy here guys, so we will ask you not to ask host families, the CPs or your teachers what it translates to...

As our Prime Minister Kevin Rudd recently noted 3 or 4 times in a recent interview - 'fair shake of the sauce bottle'...
Actually, to be honest, I don't think any of us really know what that one means.

Have a go, try your best to work it out, and prizes will go to the students who can solve it!

[HAPPY] HOURS OF POWER

Session 7 of 2009 kicked off in true PGIC style last week...
For the new students, there was barely time to blink as they were inundated with an Aussie BBQ on Intake day, as well as packed Lunch and Conversation Clubs and the opportunity to get a real taste of Australian sporting rivalry with Game 2 of State Of Origin on Wednesday night.

The week rounded off nicely on Friday with Happy Hour at Union Jacks. Old students, new students and CPs combined to start a party that began well before the sun had set, and (from what we hear) continued on into the wee hours of the morning at Madtongsan & Han Woo-Ri. Fun times...

If you want to reflect on the night, we have a selection of photos here for your viewing pleasure.

Food, glorious food.

The dancefloor raging.

He might be providing the party for the dancefloor but this photo proves that Adam is the loneliest man at Happy Hour.

Michael Jackson tribute in full effect.

Lion Impressions... Ned won easily.

Cheese.

Betty proving her theory that fun isn't exactly rocket science.

5pm wrestlemania.

EA Championship Soccer Game

PACIFIC GATEWAY
SOCCER TEAM
TOURNAMENT

On Saturday the 20th of June, PGIC's one and only Soccer Team took on various other English colleges from around Brisbane in the EA Championship at the University of Queensland, St. Lucia.

It was a great show for the team the whole day long. Even to begin with they were already playing in great form; winning both of their first two games. It was also a great turn out for supporters who came in droves to cheer on their team.

The dream team!

When asked to pose for the camera, this is what JK came up with.

Ned was amused.

This didn't last long.

These signs received a good work out from the crowd who came to cheer on the team.

Posing is a must.

After making it all the way to the semi-final game against Langports English College, we were unfortunately defeated in a Penalty Shootout. That said, the team performed great even in rain and despite a lot of injuries!

Once again, always time to pose for the camera.

In between games morale was high.

With supporters in the dozens who came to support their mates.

The crowd for PGIC rivalled pretty much every other school on show.

Tight defence line.

JK wasn't too satisfied with the bibs.

The team did great all around and it was a fun packed day for all. Congratulations to all the team, and a big thanks to everyone who came along to make it a memorable experience for all!
