State of Origin (Game 1)

Rugby League is one Australia's most popular sports, and nothing is bigger in the Rugby calendar than State of Origin.

State of Origin means 'the state of your birth' and is a 3-match series between Queensland & New South Wales. The matches are fiercely competitive, exciting and full of passion as Queenslanders and New South Welshmen fight to be crowned the number one state.

Even people who don't normally follow Rugby League will often watch State Of Origin.

Queensland have been the champions for the past 3 years and are looking to make it 4 when the first match begins next Wednesday, June 3rd.

The venue is still being decided for this activity - so we will have more information coming in the next few days. This is a great chance to learn the rules of Rugby League, and enjoy the atmosphere of State Of Origin with the CPs and other Australian people...

S-A-L-S-A (because everybody likes to say Salsa)

In an episode of Seinfeld, George Costanza once said that Salsa was the most popular condiment in America...

If we go south of the border, you'll also find that Salsa is not only a wonderful addition to corn chips - but also a very popular style of dance.

We're sure our Colombian students know what we're talking about.

If you are interested in learning the moves of Salsa, there are FREE lessons available outside the Casino (corner of George & Elizabeth St) next Friday (June 5)...

This has always been a popular activity for PGIC students in the past - so please see Gareth at the Activities Desk to sign up in time!

RACQ Big Brisbane BBQ

After tasting beer on Saturday June 6 at the XXXX Brewery Tour (see below), it's fair to say you're going to be hungry... most people will probably eat later that day - but for those who like to wait out their hunger, then the next day you will be able to eat like a king at the RACQ Big Brisbane BBQ!

On Sunday June 7, The Roma Street Parklands will host this event from 10.30am until 3.30pm in celebration of Queensland's 150th Birthday.

There will be various entertainment on the day, and best of all... the BBQ is FREE

please see Gareth at the Activities Desk to sign up!

XXXX Brewery Tour

What is XXXX you ask?

Well, for starters, XXXX is one of the most iconic beers in Australia. It is also the choice of beer for many people here in Queensland.

The brand has existed here since 1924 - and the factory (or brewery) is located in Milton - not far from the city.

Each month, PGIC students have the opportunity to join a tour of the brewery, where you can learn about the history of the company - as well as tasting many different kinds of beer.
The tour this month will take place on Saturday June 6.

The brewery also looks very similar to the original Willy Wonka Factory.

There is a small fee needed to join the tour - and more information on the tour and to sign up, please see Gareth at the Activities Desk...

A New Dawn. A New Session

Session 6 has begun with a bang, and as always, PGIC has a hectic calendar full of new and interesting activities for students to enjoy.

This month we have everything from parties, brewery tours and basketball, to Aussie Food tasting, free Yoga and Cooking Club. A lot of these activities are new for PGIC, so we hope you will join and make it a success. As always, we welcome feedback on these activities and open to your suggestions. You can make comments here on the blog, or talk to Gareth at the Activities Desk with your opinions.

Another reminder that Happy Hour is on again this afternoon. Last Happy Hour was one of our best ever, and we hope to make tonight even more fun. The new students will have a chance to meet lots of new people - and our CPs will be joining in on the fun.

We look forward to seeing you there!

HEAVY RAIN PUSHES THE BBQ TO THE PGIC CAMPUS

Unfortunately Brisbane had some rain and our Southbank Park plans had to be changed. There was a smaller turnout to our BBQ which we had on Adelaide Street.

After a long day of Communication Assessments, we still managed to eat some good BBQ food.

Thanks to super chef Jesse Whittle, who took care of the BBQ like a pro. Maybe he is in the wrong business.

small Birthday celebration

Jesse Olsen turns 22 ...

Happy birthday to Jesse, we had a little cake at the BBQ last Thursday.

Is he eating lettuce or blowing out candles?

Thats a lotta candles for a small cake. Where are the Fire Wardens?

Karaoke Nights

Karaoke Kids gone Krazy

Jessica singing love songs.

It was more than a little bizarre. Last Thursday night the PGIC wild kids went to town. Brisbane City has never seen karaoke talent like that.

JK ... or is that Eminem?

Amy and Colin organised a few of the most gifted, best voices in the college for a sing off. It was better than auditions for Australian Idol.

CHECK OUT THOSE MOVES ...

Move over Britney Spears ... make way for AMY-MAREE in da house

There was dancing, singing and LOTS of laughing. We are just happy someone took a camera.

Nine Lives Gallery

As some students may already know, our Conversation Partner Adam and his friends run a small art gallery close to Chinatown called Nine Lives.

Since they opened in October last year, they have featured several artists from Brisbane, Sydney & overseas (including our Conversation Partner Jesse).

This Friday night from 6pm they will have a new show featuring new works from Brisbane artists Rob Scott & Georg. If you are interested in coming and visiting the gallery on Friday night, you can find the gallery in the Brunswick St mall, above Mellino's Italian Restaurant.

to view examples of work from Georg & Rob Scott, head over to the Nine Lives Blog:

After the gallery, please feel free to come to the Lick It Party (read about it below).

VET SOCIAL

VET WELCOME DRINKS

for new Students and Staff

Thursday night, PGIC was able to welcome new students and staff into PGIC's VET Program. Both students and staff involved in the Diploma of International Business and the Cert IV of International Trade were invited to relax and socailize. Welcome drinks were enjoyed by all at the Platform Bar on Ann St.

Located only 50 meters from the PGIC campus teachers and students were able to walk to the Central Station and get to know eachother on a personal level.

The night turned more competitive with a game of pool later in the evening.
